Booking a removal truck, skip bin or storage pod? Some Melbourne councils issue a permit for moving day, many only regulate skips and containers, and a few don’t publish anything specific. This guide sets out what each council we cover actually publishes, so you can plan the truck, the skip and the timing.
Council pages checked 14 October 2026. Fees change each financial year, so check the council page before you apply.
Councils with a moving-day permit
The City of Melbourne (reserved parking permits that cover removalists), the City of Port Phillip (a free temporary resident relocation permit) and Yarra City Council (a parking bay occupation permit for moving house) publish permits that clearly cover a removal truck. Merri-bek’s service permit covers removalists in streets with timed parking.
