Phillip apartments and Curtin houses: what a Woden Valley clean involves

Woden Valley’s homes change a lot from suburb to suburb. At the ABS 2021 Census, Phillip had 2,623 occupied homes: 1,757 flats or apartments (712 of them in blocks of nine storeys or more), 860 townhouses or semi-detached homes and just 3 separate houses. In Curtin, by contrast, 1,696 of 2,023 occupied homes were separate houses, and Lyons had a mix, with 376 flats among its 1,342 homes.

Moving out of a tower apartment? Ask the building manager whether the lift and loading area need booking, where a visitor can park and how the cleaner collects a fob or key, and let us know when you book.

In a house, each extra bedroom and bathroom adds time, so put the real room count into the booking form and the price you see will match the property.

Stained washing, garden bins and batteries: moving out of a Woden Valley home

When the water runs discoloured

Icon Water’s 2025–26 Drinking Water Quality Report says, for its whole network, that discoloured water is often linked to maintenance work or changes in network use, that it usually clears within a short time after flushing, and that deposits dislodged from household plumbing or the water main can stain washing. If the tap runs brown, wait for it to clear before washing whites or refilling a mop bucket.

The same report links blue or green water to corroding copper pipes, and notes that high copper levels can stain taps. Marks like that point to the plumbing, so mention them to your property manager rather than scrubbing harder. Limescale is rarely the problem: Woden sits in Icon Water’s zone 3, where total hardness averaged 35 mg/L across the year’s samples.

The green bin stays, the batteries go

If the house has a garden bin, the ACT Government registers it to the address, so it must stay at the property when you move; keep it under 50 kg so the truck can lift it. Old batteries found while clearing drawers must never go in a household or recycling bin. City Services lists over 80 free B-cycle drop-off points around Canberra and suggests taping the terminals of used batteries.

Moving day in Woden Valley: parking, skips and unwanted furniture

Woden Valley is in the area of the ACT Government. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.

  • The ACT Government doesn’t publish a moving-day parking permit, but parking on nature strips is prohibited, so plan where the truck will stop.
  • A skip or bin on a nature strip or other public land needs a public land permit, and the ACT Government lists shipping containers on roads or verges for moving house as not approved. Applications are assessed within 28 days of all documents being received, so apply early.
  • Reusable furniture can go to Goodies Junction, the reuse shops at the Mugga Lane and Mitchell resource management centres, which accept reusable items free.
