Hard Rubbish Collection in Melbourne: How to Book in Every Council

Moving out and need furniture gone before the cleaners arrive? Most Melbourne councils collect hard rubbish, but each one books it differently, limits what you can put out, and some have a wait of several weeks. Find your council below, book as soon as you know your moving date, and have everything collected before your end of lease clean and key handover.

Council details checked 11 October 2026. Rules and fees change, so confirm on the council page before you book.

Before you book

  • Not sure which council you’re in? Use the Victorian Government’s Know Your Council search.
  • Free collections usually belong to the property, so a previous occupant may already have used this year’s allowance.
  • Only put items out when your booking says, and keep them tidy so they don’t block the footpath.
  • If the collection date is after your final inspection, take items to a tip or transfer station or use a rubbish removal service instead.
