Period houses and bathroom condensation: cleaning a Newtown home
The City of Greater Geelong describes Newtown as having hundreds of Victorian and Edwardian houses. If you’re leaving one of them, use the booking form’s instructions field to mention anything that takes extra time, such as timber floorboards, tall skirting boards, decorative cornices or a detached garage. Skirting boards, inside window tracks, cobwebs and a swept garage are already on our end of lease checklist.
Keeping condensation and mould in check
The Better Health Channel says mould grows best in damp, poorly ventilated areas, and that condensation from cooking, showering and clothes drying adds moisture indoors. Its tips: run exhaust fans or open windows while you shower, cook or use the dishwasher, wipe water off windows and shower glass, and clean the dryer’s lint filter as the manufacturer recommends.
It matters when you rent. Consumer Affairs Victoria says a renter may be responsible for mould that formed because the bathroom fan wasn’t used, while the rental provider may be responsible where a fault, such as a broken window frame letting rain in, caused the damp. Tell your rental provider as soon as you notice mould or rising damp. At move-out, our end of lease clean includes bathroom mould removal, but not ceiling mould.
Pets and cleaning services in Newtown
Moving out with a dog or cat? Consumer Affairs Victoria also notes that a renter may be responsible if there are fleas in the property because their pet wasn’t treated. Flea and pest treatment isn’t part of our cleaning, so arrange it separately if your lease asks for it, and add carpet steam cleaning for rooms the pets used. Our Newtown end of lease page walks through Victoria’s pet request rules.

What our clients say
Moving day in Newtown: parking, skips and unwanted furniture
Newtown is in the area of the City of Greater Geelong. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.
- The City doesn’t publish a removal-truck permit. Occupying a footpath, laneway or road needs a Street/Footpath Occupation Permit.
- A skip on Council land needs a permit taken out by the bin hire company; on your own property, no permit is needed. A moving container on private property needs no permit, while one on City-managed land needs an application (nature strips only, keeping 1.5 m clear for pedestrians).
- The City’s resource recovery centres take large items for re-use or recycling, and each site lists items available to buy.
In Victoria, it’s illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish, so take old electronics to an e-waste drop-off.
