Two water sampling areas and a pollen season: keeping a Hamlyn Heights home clean

Barwon Water supplies Hamlyn Heights, and the Victorian Department of Health’s supplier list places the suburb in two of its sampling areas, Lovely Banks and Montpellier. Barwon Water’s 2024–25 drinking water quality report recorded average hardness of 29 mg/L in Lovely Banks and 50 mg/L in Montpellier, both well under the 200 mg/L aesthetic guideline.

The same report explains that hard water needs more soap to lather and can leave scale in kettles and fittings. Water this soft rarely does either.

Grass pollen season, October to December

The Better Health Channel says Victoria’s grass pollen season usually runs from 1 October to 31 December, and with it comes the chance of thunderstorm asthma for people with asthma or hay fever. For health advice, follow the Better Health Channel and your GP.

Renting with pets in Hamlyn Heights, and the cleaning services to book

In Victoria, a renter who wants a pet fills in a pet request form, and the rental provider has 14 days to decide or apply to VCAT, as Consumer Affairs Victoria’s pets in rental properties page sets out. No extra pet bond can be charged, and if VCAT has to decide on damage caused by a pet, it considers fair wear and tear and the age of the item. Before the final inspection, book carpet steam cleaning if pets lived indoors and mention pet hair when you book. The dog sheds; we vacuum. Everyone sticks to their strengths.

Moving day in Hamlyn Heights: parking, skips and unwanted furniture

Hamlyn Heights is in the area of the City of Greater Geelong. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.

  • The City doesn’t publish a removal-truck permit. Occupying a footpath, laneway or road needs a Street/Footpath Occupation Permit.
  • A skip on Council land needs a permit taken out by the bin hire company; on your own property, no permit is needed. A moving container on private property needs no permit, while one on City-managed land needs an application (nature strips only, keeping 1.5 m clear for pedestrians).
  • The City’s resource recovery centres take large items for re-use or recycling, and each site lists items available to buy.

In Victoria, it’s illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish, so take old electronics to an e-waste drop-off.
