Wood heaters, Greenway apartments and pink bathroom stains: cleaning in Tuggeranong

After a winter with the wood heater

A season of fires leaves a fine layer of ash and soot on the hearth surround, mantel, nearby walls and light switches. If you’ve used a wood heater or open fire, mention it when you book so the cleaner knows to give those surfaces attention. Inside the firebox and the flue are jobs for a flue specialist, not part of our service. Your wood heater kept you warm all winter; we’ll deal with what it left on the mantel.

Thinking of going electric? The ACT Government’s Wood Heater Removal Program offers a rebate for removing a wood heater or permanently closing off an open fireplace. Owners of rental properties can apply too, with both the owner and the tenant signing the application form.

Apartments and townhouses in Greenway

At the ABS 2021 Census, 4,953 of Kambah’s 5,852 occupied homes were separate houses. Greenway is the exception, with 1,320 of its 2,088 occupied homes flats or apartments, 459 of them in blocks of nine storeys or more, plus 709 townhouses and semi-detached homes.

If you’re in an apartment building, check with your building or strata manager whether the lift, loading area or visitor parking needs booking for the day of the clean, and tell us how the cleaner gets in. Building rules differ, so ask rather than assume.

Pink and black marks in bathrooms, and the services to book

Pink, orange or black staining around basins, shower heads, toilet cisterns and tap outlets is common, and Icon Water explains it comes from airborne bacteria that grow on warm, moist surfaces, not from its water supply. Its advice: clean regularly with a chlorine-based disinfectant, keep surfaces dry, improve ventilation and clean inside tap fittings with mesh inserts. Before an inspection, run the exhaust fan and leave the bathroom door open so the marks don’t creep back.

Did you know? According to ACT place-name records, Wanniassa takes its name from Colonel Thomas Macquoid’s estate, which he named after a former Indonesian village where he held land. Its streets are named after Victorian state politicians.

Moving day in Tuggeranong: parking, skips and unwanted furniture

Tuggeranong is in the area of the ACT Government. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.

  • The ACT Government doesn’t publish a moving-day parking permit, but parking on nature strips is prohibited, so plan where the truck will stop.
  • A skip or bin on a nature strip or other public land needs a public land permit, and the ACT Government lists shipping containers on roads or verges for moving house as not approved. Applications are assessed within 28 days of all documents being received, so apply early.
  • Reusable furniture can go to Goodies Junction, the reuse shops at the Mugga Lane and Mitchell resource management centres, which accept reusable items free.
