  • Refund: ACT bonds are held by ACT Rental Bonds (ACT Revenue Office). You request the refund with a Bond Refund form; if the lessor or agent agrees, it is paid as requested. Completed forms are processed within 14 days.

  • Rubbish and large items: see bins, bulky waste and tips in Canberra for the bulky waste booking rules and drop-off sites.

Useful if you are moving in or out. Collection days, hard waste rules and tip fees are set by the council or government service responsible for your address, so use their official links below.

ACT Government: City Services (ACT NoWaste)

There are no local councils in the ACT. Household bins, bulky waste collections and the tips are run by the ACT Government’s City Services, through its waste service ACT NoWaste.

  • ACT NoWaste customer service (bins and bulky waste) 02 6205 9521

Check your bin collection day Collection days are set by suburb: choose your suburb in the City Services bin collection calendar.

Standard household bins are a red- or dark-green-lid general waste bin (140 litres, collected weekly) and a yellow-lid recycling bin (240 litres, fortnightly). A lime-green-lid garden bin is optional (one-off registration fee, collected fortnightly).

In apartment and townhouse complexes with shared bins, bin requests go through the building manager.
