Carpet cleaning at the end of a lease
If you are moving out, check what your tenancy agreement and condition report say about the carpets. In Victoria, renters must leave the property reasonably clean, with fair wear and tear excepted, and the condition report from the start of the agreement is the reference. Since 29 March 2021 a rental provider can only require professional cleaning at the end of the tenancy if the property was professionally cleaned immediately before you moved in and you were told, or if it is needed to return the property to its condition at the start, allowing for fair wear and tear. Carpet steam cleaning can be added to an end of lease clean in Caulfield in the same booking. Moving out? See moving out and claiming your rental bond.

How we clean carpets
Our carpet cleaning is a steam clean (hot water extraction):
- Heavily marked areas are pre-treated to loosen dirt and spots.
- Hot water and cleaning solution are worked through the carpet fibres and extracted with the machine, taking the loosened dirt with them.
- As much water as possible is extracted, so the carpet is left damp rather than wet.
Keep the room ventilated afterwards and avoid walking on the damp carpet in outdoor shoes. How long it takes to dry depends on the carpet, the weather and airflow.

Stains, odours and what to expect
Steam cleaning lifts everyday soiling and many spots, but results depend on what caused a stain, how long it has been there and what has already been used on it. Some marks, such as dyes, bleach spots or old pet urine, may only fade or may not come out at all, and wear in high-traffic paths is not dirt. Tell us about stains, pets and recent spills in the booking form’s instructions field so we know what to expect.
If something spills before we arrive
- Act quickly: scoop up solids and blot liquids with a clean white cloth or paper towel.
- Blot, don’t rub, and work from the outside of the spot towards the middle so it does not spread.
- Use only a little water and avoid soaking the carpet; over-wetting can spread a stain into the backing.
- Before using any product, check the carpet’s care guide and the product label, and test on a hidden spot.
Looking after carpet between cleans
Regular vacuuming, especially in hallways and other high-traffic areas, removes grit before it wears the fibres, and doormats at entrances keep a lot of it out. Your carpet manufacturer’s care guide is the best reference for products and cleaning methods for your carpet type.
Getting rid of old carpet in Caulfield: Glen Eira hard rubbish
Caulfield is in the City of Glen Eira, so carpet you pull up goes out through the council’s booked hard rubbish collection, not your household bins. Glen Eira’s A–Z guide lists carpet and linoleum among the accepted items. Underlay and rugs aren’t named, so check with the council before putting them out.
- Book through the council’s hard rubbish form with a residential Glen Eira address; pickup is arranged for your next bin day.
- Bookings made after 5.30pm the night before roll over to the following week.
- Keep the pile under four cubic metres, in pieces two people can lift safely.
- Put it on the nature strip the night before. Council won’t collect from driveways or private property, and hazardous waste such as asbestos is excluded.
Replacing carpet in one room often shows up how worn the hallway and bedrooms beside it look. A steam clean of the rooms you’re keeping helps the whole floor match again. The Caulfield area page has more on the council’s hard waste and tip information.
Houses, townhouses and walk-up flats: carpet cleaning across Caulfield's housing mix
Caulfield’s homes are an even spread. In the ABS 2021 Census, 39.9% of occupied private dwellings in the suburb were separate houses, 37.9% were semi-detached, terrace or townhouses, and 21.5% were flats or apartments. About a third of households (31.7%) were renting.
Most of those flats were in one- or two-storey blocks, and none were in blocks of nine storeys or more. That shapes how a carpet clean runs:
- Walk-up flats: without a lift, the equipment comes up the stairs, so a clear stairwell and a nearby parking spot make the start easier. If your building has an owners corporation, check its rules on contractor parking and common areas before the day.
- Two-storey townhouses: stairs and landings carry the most foot traffic, so include them when you choose your rooms.
- Houses: clear small items and anything fragile from the floor. Our cleaners move light furniture only.
Renting and moving out? Carpet steam cleaning can go in the same booking as your end of lease clean.

Did you know? Glen Eira City Council says the name Caulfield has been used since 1853 for the area around the racecourse, though where the name came from is uncertain.
