Soft tap water and registered pets: moving house in Broadmeadows

Broadmeadows is supplied by Yarra Valley Water and sits in its Glenroy water sampling area. The Yarra Valley Water 2025–26 Drinking Water Quality Report recorded an average hardness of 17 mg/L there, well under the guideline mean of 200 mg/L. Hardness is the calcium and magnesium that leaves a hard, flaky scale, so with this little of it, a dull film on shower glass or chrome is more likely soap and grime than limescale.

Dogs and cats over three months old must be microchipped and registered with Hume City Council. Moving out of Hume? Council asks owners to update the pet’s record and recommends updating the microchip registry as well, so put both on your moving list. Hume’s responsible pet ownership page also asks owners to keep cats confined to their premises and inside at night.

Once the furniture is gone, pet hair left in the carpet shows up quickly. Our carpet cleaners move light furniture only, and power and water need to be connected on the day.

Moving day in Broadmeadows: parking, skips and unwanted furniture

Broadmeadows is in the area of Hume City Council. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.

  • Large vehicles (over 7.5 m or 4.5 t) can’t stay parked in a built-up area for more than an hour without a permit, so check the size of your removal truck.
  • Skips on the road or nature strip need Council permission, applied for by the hire company.
  • Council runs Recycled Goods Stores at its Sunbury and Campbellfield resource recovery centres, and suggests charity stores, online sales or a garage sale for good items.

In Victoria, it’s illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish, so take old electronics to an e-waste drop-off.
