Condensation and mould in a Collingwood rental: what to do before you move out
Victoria’s Better Health Channel lists condensation from cooking, showering and drying clothes among the sources of indoor moisture. Its suggestions: run exhaust fans or open windows while you shower, cook or use the dishwasher, wipe condensation off windows and shower glass, and air the home on warmer days.
Who fixes what depends on the cause. Better Health says the owner should fix mould caused by faults in gutters or other fixtures, while the tenant should use extractor fans and air the home where possible. Under Victoria’s rental minimum standards, every room must be free from mould and damp caused by or related to the building structure, and bathrooms, toilets and laundries need adequate ventilation. If mould keeps coming back despite airing, raise it with your agent before moving day. Our end of lease bathroom clean includes mould removal, but not ceiling mould.
Move-out rubbish and apartment rules in Collingwood
Yarra’s A to Z waste and recycling guide covers what a move turns up. Dismantled cardboard boxes go in the recycling bin (waxed or lined cardboard goes in the rubbish bin), and residents can take up to 50 kg of cardboard per visit to the Clifton Hill Recycling Centre, plus polystyrene appliance packaging labelled 6, up to one cubic metre. Household chemicals go to a Detox your Home drop-off event, which needs registration; a mattress can go out with a hard rubbish collection, one per collection; and bagged vacuum dust belongs in the rubbish bin. Bin days and hard rubbish bookings are under bins, bulky waste and tips.
In an apartment block, the owners corporation’s rules matter too. Where it hasn’t made its own rule, Victoria’s model rules apply: occupiers must not obstruct other people’s lawful use of the common property, or damage or alter it without the owners corporation’s written approval. When you book, tell us which lift, corridor or car-park entry the cleaner should use, so vacuums and buckets move through shared areas without scuffing anything. You flatten the boxes; we’ll take care of the shower screen.

Moving day in Collingwood: parking, skips and unwanted furniture
Collingwood is in the area of Yarra City Council. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.
- Yarra’s parking bay occupation permit can be used for moving house, for vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes and 7.5 m long. Apply at least 5 business days ahead; it isn’t available in no-stopping, loading or short-term (under 1P) zones and doesn’t reserve a specific bay.
- Shipping containers and storage pods need a separate road occupation permit, and skips on Council land need a permit from a registered skip company (usually issued within 24 hours).
In Victoria, it’s illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish, so take old electronics to an e-waste drop-off.

With so many apartments, check whether your building asks you to book the lift or loading bay for moving day, and how keys, fobs and remotes are returned. Ask your building manager or owners corporation rather than assuming. When you know your moving and inspection dates, see end of lease cleaning in Collingwood and our guide to moving out and getting your bond back.
