Epping is in the City of Whittlesea, so the rubbish you leave behind follows Whittlesea’s rules. Sorting it before the clean means cupboards, floors and the garage are empty when the cleaners start, and they can work through the checklist without stepping around boxes.
- Hard rubbish takes time to book. Each household gets two collections per financial year, and the council asks you to allow up to four weeks. - Renters can use the council’s disposal vouchers. Whittlesea says its waste and recycling vouchers are available to the residents of a property, so tenants qualify. Each year’s set has four free green waste, four free timber and two free brick and rubble vouchers, plus a discounted general waste voucher, all valid until 30 June. They are digital, issued through the council’s Customer Portal, and you bring ID showing your Whittlesea address.
Drop-off points inside Epping
- Repurpose It, Cooper Street: prunings, shrubs, lawn clippings and stumps, plus bricks, concrete and rock. It does not take soil, tree roots or general garbage.
- EcoDynamics, on the same Cooper Street site: pallets, crates and timber off-cuts that are not painted, stained or treated. MDF, melamine, treated pine and fence palings are refused.

Epping's water and your bathroom clean: what Yarra Valley Water reports
Epping is supplied by Yarra Valley Water, which publishes test results for each of its water sampling areas. In its 2025–26 Drinking Water Quality Report, the Epping sampling area recorded a mean hardness of 30 mg/L across four quarterly samples (26 to 34 mg/L), against an aesthetic guideline of a mean of 200 mg/L or less. The utility notes that sampling areas follow its pipes, tanks and pumps rather than suburb boundaries.
The same report describes hardness as calcium and magnesium salts that can attach to surfaces as a hard, flaky scale and make soap harder to lather. On its water quality problems page, Yarra Valley Water adds that calcium can leach from new cement-lined mains, most often in new subdivisions, and affect soap and saucepans until the pipes stabilise.

Before your final inspection
In Victoria, renters must leave the property reasonably clean, with fair wear and tear excepted, and the condition report from the start of the agreement is the reference. Since 29 March 2021 a rental provider can only require professional cleaning at the end of the tenancy if the property was professionally cleaned immediately before you moved in and you were told, or if it is needed to return the property to its condition at the start, allowing for fair wear and tear.
