Bushfire prone areas and three-bedroom homes: cleaning in Greensborough

The Victorian Government’s Vicmap Bushfire Prone Area data maps parts of Greensborough as bushfire prone, on both the Banyule and the Nillumbik sides of the suburb. You can check a specific address on VicPlan.

Count your rooms before you book

In the ABS 2021 Census, 3,749 of Greensborough’s 7,762 occupied private dwellings had three bedrooms and 2,781 had four or more. End of lease cleaning is booked by the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and carpet cleaning by the room, so have those counts ready when you book online.

Clearing out before the clean: Greensborough's two council drop-off centres

Greensborough is split between two councils, and each runs its own drop-off centre. Bin days and hard rubbish are covered in bins, bulky waste and tips on this page; these details help with the last load before moving day.

  • Banyule Waste Recovery Centre, Bellfield: mattresses are not accepted (Council points you to its mattress collection instead), TVs and computers under the national recycling scheme are free, and payment is by card or EFT only, no cash. Upgrades are under way, so check the Waste Recovery Centre page before you load the car.
  • Nillumbik Recycling Centre, Plenty: takes e-waste (anything with a plug, cord or battery), Nillumbik residents can drop off green waste with the voucher on their rate notice, and no trucks or commercial quantities are accepted (Nillumbik Recycling Centre).

Empty rooms are quicker to clean, and nobody has to vacuum around a mattress.

Moving day in Greensborough: parking, skips and unwanted furniture

Greensborough is split between Banyule City Council and Nillumbik Shire Council. Check which council collects your bins, then follow that council’s rules below.

  • Banyule City Council: Banyule doesn’t publish a moving-day parking permit. Using the road, footpath or nature strip in a way that blocks others needs a road occupation permit.
  • Banyule City Council: A skip on public land needs a permit (not on your own driveway), and you must notify neighbours within 150 m at least 7 days before it arrives.
  • Banyule City Council: Council’s Waste Recovery Centre in Bellfield takes items for reuse, and its A–Z guide suggests reselling or donating good furniture.
  • Nillumbik Shire Council: Nillumbik doesn’t publish a moving-day parking permit.
  • Nillumbik Shire Council: Small skips (2.5 m³ or less) on the nature strip are exempt if they meet Council’s conditions; otherwise the waste business applies for a permit at least seven days ahead.
  • Nillumbik Shire Council: The Reuse Shop at Council’s Recycling Centre in Plenty accepts good-condition donations where possible.

In Victoria, it’s illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish, so take old electronics to an e-waste drop-off.
