City of Whittlesea

The City of Whittlesea runs household bins and booked hard rubbish collections. It does not run its own tip; it lists the nearest landfill and other sites.

Households have a red-lid rubbish bin (weekly), a yellow-lid recycling bin (fortnightly), a green-lid food and garden waste bin (fortnightly, alternating with recycling) and a purple-lid glass bin (every four weeks).

If you live in a unit or townhouse, call the council to book hard rubbish and confirm where to put it.

Hard rubbish collection

  • How much: households can book up to two collections each financial year, each fitting within 3 cubic metres (3 m × 1 m × 1 m), with items two people can lift.
  • Not collected: e-waste including whitegoods and electronics (drop these off free instead), air conditioners, hot water services, building and renovation materials, car parts and tyres, carpet, rubble and soil, fence palings, household rubbish, garden waste, cardboard, polystyrene, bagged items and liquids.   • Booking notice: the council asks you to book in advance and allow up to four weeks to secure a date; it says the wait can be several weeks. Items go on the nature strip no earlier than the night before.

Tips, transfer stations and drop-off
