Soft water, pets and pollen season: keeping a Frankston home clean

Frankston's water is soft

Frankston is supplied by South East Water. Its 2024–25 drinking water quality report measured hardness across the network at 15 to 27 mg/L, averaging 18 mg/L, far below the 200 mg/L level it gives for limiting scale in hot water systems. With water this soft, heavy limescale is unlikely, so a regular wipe of shower glass, taps and the kettle keeps them looking clean.

Cats, dogs and moving out

Frankston City Council has a cat curfew: cats must stay on their owner’s property between dusk and dawn. If your cat sleeps inside, check carpets, skirting boards and window sills for fur before the final inspection.

Renting with a pet? Consumer Affairs Victoria explains that you ask with a pet request form (one per pet), the rental provider has 14 days to decide, and no extra pet bond can be charged. You still have to keep the home reasonably clean, so book the carpets in with your end of lease clean.

October to December: grass pollen season

The Better Health Channel says Victoria’s grass pollen season usually runs from 1 October to 31 December and suggests checking the Melbourne Pollen Count and Forecast. In those months, vacuuming carpets and wiping sills and window tracks more often may help reduce dust and pollen indoors.

Moving day in Frankston: parking, skips and unwanted furniture

Frankston is in the area of Frankston City Council. Here’s what it publishes about moving day.

  • Frankston doesn’t publish a moving-day parking permit. Large vehicles (7.5 m or 4.5 t and over) are limited to one hour on a road in a built-up area unless the driver is actively loading or unloading goods.
  • Skips and containers on a road need a permit (allow 5 business days); containers can’t go on a nature strip.
  • The Treasure Chest recycled-goods shop at the Frankston Regional Recycling and Recovery Centre in Skye sells reusable goods, but it doesn’t take donations.

In Victoria, it’s illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish, so take old electronics to an e-waste drop-off.
