Moving out of a Box Hill apartment: lifts, parking and common areas

Just over half of Box Hill’s occupied homes were flats or apartments at the ABS 2021 Census, and about one in four occupied homes was in a block of nine or more storeys. If yours is one of them, the building affects the clean as much as the apartment does.

Consumer Affairs Victoria explains that owners corporation rules can cover moving furniture and other objects through common property, use of car parks, and access to common property. Before you book, ask your building manager how visiting cleaners get in, where they can park and whether the lift needs booking, then choose a preferred start time that fits. Our team confirms the booking.

Living in a house or townhouse on a street with timed or permit-zone parking? Whitehorse City Council issues short-term service permits that exempt tradespeople and similar services from timed restrictions for up to a month; you’ll need evidence of the work dates, such as a quote.

Soft water and condensation: cleaning tips, and our services in Box Hill

Yarra Valley Water supplies Box Hill (3128) through its Mitcham water sampling area. Its 2025–26 drinking water quality report measured hardness there between 15 and 17 mg/L, a mean of 17 mg/L against a guideline mean of 200 mg/L or less. Water that soft leaves little of the hard, flaky scale hardness salts cause, so taps and shower screens usually need a mild cleaner and a dry cloth rather than a heavy descaler.

Victoria’s Better Health Channel says mould grows best in damp, poorly ventilated areas, and suggests wiping condensation off windows and shower glass and using exhaust fans or opening windows when cooking or showering. A few weeks of that before you move out makes the final clean faster.

Households have a red-lid garbage bin (weekly; older bins have a dark green lid) and a yellow-lid recycling bin (fortnightly). A bright-green-lid food and garden organics (FOGO) bin is optional, with an annual charge.

Not every apartment or unit development has council bin collection; some have private collections, so check with your property manager or owners corporation.
