Hard waste and water: moving out of Clayton
The City of Monash collects hard waste once a year for eligible properties, and the 2026 round ran from 13 July to 4 September, so a move-out now falls outside it. Residents can pay for an extra collection instead: up to two cubic metres, picked up on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and collected that week if you book and pay before 4pm on Monday. Items must be under 1.5 m long and light enough for two people to lift. Apartments and other multi-unit buildings may not have access, so check with the building manager or body corporate first (additional hard waste collection).
Smaller loads can go to the Monash Recycling and Waste Centre. With proof of address, residents can drop off e-waste, clothing, cardboard, scrap metal and up to 100 litres of paint for free; mattresses and fridges cost extra, and domestic garbage isn’t accepted. What South East Water says about hardness
Clayton’s water comes from South East Water, which lists the suburb in two of its water sampling localities, 610 Caulfield and 660 Dandenong North. Hardness is reported across the network rather than by suburb: in its 2024–25 drinking water quality report, 20 samples averaged 18 mg/L. South East Water calls its typical range of 12 to 45 mg/L soft and says Melbourne’s low hardness means cleaning agents perform better, though boiling water can still leave mineral deposits inside kettles and steam irons. What’s included in an end of lease clean
Every end of lease clean follows our checklist, and your cleaners bring the products and equipment. In short:
- Kitchen: sink, benchtops, cupboards inside and out, stove, range hood and filters, and the dishwasher exterior.
- Oven: oven and grill cleaned inside, including the glass, grease and grime removed, and the front wiped down.
- Bathrooms: shower, bath, tiles and screens, vanity and cabinets inside and out, toilet, mirrors, exhaust fan (exterior), mould removal (not ceiling mould) and floors.

- Laundry: benchtops, sink and taps, floor and light fittings.
- Garage: swept and cobwebs removed.

Planning your end of lease clean in Clayton
A few things make the clean and the final inspection go more smoothly:
- Book the clean for after the furniture is out. Cleaners need empty rooms to reach skirting boards, floors and the insides of wardrobes, so the best time is once the removalists have gone and before you return the keys.

In Victoria, renters must leave the property reasonably clean, with fair wear and tear excepted, and the condition report from the start of the agreement is the reference. Since 29 March 2021 a rental provider can only require professional cleaning at the end of the tenancy if the property was professionally cleaned immediately before you moved in and you were told, or if it is needed to return the property to its condition at the start, allowing for fair wear and tear.
