End of Lease Cleaning Services Cheltenham

Our cleaners can only clean what they can reach, so emptying the house comes first. Check which council collects your bins (our Cheltenham bins, hard waste and tips guide shows how), because the City of Kingston and Bayside City Council book hard waste in different ways.

City of Kingston: book by 3pm the business day before bin day

• Homes that use the council’s kerbside bins get two free collections per financial year. You can use them separately or together as one double collection.
• A single collection must fit within 2 m long, 1 m wide and 1 m high. Each item must be under 40 kg and no longer than 1.5 m (mattresses are exempt from the length limit), with a maximum of two mattresses.
• Bookings close at 3pm on the business day before your bin day, and items go on the nature strip by 5am on collection day. General household rubbish, paint, chemicals, garden waste and building materials aren’t taken (City of Kingston hard waste).
• Large multi-unit buildings with private waste collection can’t use the service: ask your property manager or owners corporation.

Bayside City Council: put items out before you book

• Households get two free collections per calendar year, at least six weeks apart, booked through the council’s Customer Portal.
• Items must already be on the nature strip when you submit the booking, and the council collects within 4 working days (Bayside hard waste collection).
• The size limit is 4 cubic metres (2 m by 2 m by 1 m), and rolled carpet can be no longer than 2 m.

In practice, a Kingston booking can clear the nature strip on your bin day, while a Bayside pile needs to go out at least four working days before you hand back the keys. Whatever doesn’t fit either service can go to the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre in Cheltenham, run by Future Recycling and open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm. Some e-waste, scrap metal and paint are free for Bayside residents, while mattresses and whitegoods attract a fee. The City of Kingston also lists the centre among its transfer stations and notes that fees may apply.

Don’t be tempted to leave things for the next tenant. Consumer Affairs Victoria says a rental provider can throw out perishable food and goods with no value straight away, must store goods that can be sold for at least 14 days, and in limited cases can charge an occupation fee of up to 14 days’ rent when a lot was left behind (goods left behind).

Consumer Affairs Victoria says the law doesn’t always say who is responsible for fixing it. A renter may be responsible if their behaviour contributed, and its example is mould that formed because the bathroom ventilation fan wasn’t used. A rental provider may be responsible if a problem with the property caused it, such as a faulty window frame letting in rainwater. Renters should tell the rental provider straight away when they see signs of mould or rising damp (pests, infestations and mould).

Before your clean

• Raise any mould you think comes from the building, such as a leak, now rather than at the final inspection.
