Check the water rules first
Mordialloc’s drinking water comes from South East Water. Its 2024–25 water quality report puts Mordialloc in its Mordialloc sampling locality, together with Braeside, Dingley Village, Mentone, Parkdale and Waterways. South East Water’s Permanent Water Saving Rules apply across the state every day of the year, and they cover drinking water only, not recycled water, greywater, rainwater or bore water.
- Hoses: they must always be leak free and fitted with trigger nozzles.
- Paths, driveways and concrete: water must not be used to clean hard surfaces such as these, and South East Water suggests a broom instead. Its FAQ lists the exceptions: cleaning needed because of an accident, fire, health hazard, safety hazard or other emergency; staining that has developed, and then only once a season; or construction or renovation. Even then, it must be done with a high-pressure water cleaning device, or a hand-held hose or bucket if no such device is available.
- Windows: you can wash them with a bucket, a high-pressure cleaning unit or a hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle at any time.
Batteries, old globes and bubble wrap: clearing out a Mordialloc rental

- Household batteries: Kingston says batteries are hazardous and must not be placed in any household bin, because they can cause fires and leak toxic chemicals. - Bubble wrap: it’s a soft plastic, so it goes in the red-lid landfill bin, not the recycling bin, unless you take it to a soft plastics drop-off.

In Victoria, renters must leave the property reasonably clean, with fair wear and tear excepted, and the condition report from the start of the agreement is the reference.
