Moving out of a Croydon rental with a pet: what to clean and check
Victorian renters can keep a pet with their rental provider’s consent, asked for on the Consumer Affairs Victoria pet request form (one form per pet). Renters also have to keep the property reasonably clean and take care to avoid damage. If pet damage is disputed, VCAT looks at fair wear and tear and the age and condition of the damaged item. Where pets usually leave their mark
- Hair in corners and along skirting boards: vacuuming, mopping and wiping skirting boards are on the checklist in every room, so shed fur gets picked up where it collects.
- Nose prints and paw marks: glass surfaces, mirrors and door marks are spot cleaned; tell us about the sliding door or low windows your pet liked to watch from.

Moving your pet's council registration
Maroondah City Council requires dogs and cats to be microchipped and registered by three months of age, with renewals due on 10 April each year. Staying in Maroondah? Send the council a change of details form with your new address. Heading to another council area? Tell Maroondah so it can update its records, then register with your new council. Croydon's tap water and the bathroom clean
Croydon is supplied by Yarra Valley Water, and its 2025–26 Drinking Water Quality Report lists Croydon postcode 3136 in water sampling areas 49 (Warranwood) and 51 (Croydon). Hardness, the calcium and magnesium salts that leave a hard, flaky scale, averaged 18 mg/L in the Croydon area and 16 mg/L in Warranwood, against a guideline mean of no more than 200 mg/L. What’s included in an end of lease clean
Every end of lease clean follows our checklist, and your cleaners bring the products and equipment. In short:
- Kitchen: sink, benchtops, cupboards inside and out, stove, range hood and filters, and the dishwasher exterior.

Planning your end of lease clean in Croydon
A few things make the clean and the final inspection go more smoothly:

In Victoria, renters must leave the property reasonably clean, with fair wear and tear excepted, and the condition report from the start of the agreement is the reference. Since 29 March 2021 a rental provider can only require professional cleaning at the end of the tenancy if the property was professionally cleaned immediately before you moved in and you were told, or if it is needed to return the property to its condition at the start, allowing for fair wear and tear.
