- A house can book up to 4 collections a year; apartment buildings, blocks of flats and groups of units share up to 6.
- Hard waste and green waste are limited to 2 cubic metres each (4 cubic metres combined). Single items must weigh under 50 kg and be shorter than 1.5 metres.
- Sort everything into 3 neat piles (hard waste; green waste; metal, appliances and e-waste).
- Items go on the kerb no more than 24 hours before your confirmed collection day. Putting waste out without a booking can lead to an illegal dumping fine.
- Household rubbish, recycling, chemicals, paint and building materials are not collected.
The collection day is usually the same as your bin day, so check the date the council confirms and book your clean for after it.
Leftover cleaning products
The council’s Resource Recovery Centre in South Melbourne takes residents’ e-waste, flattened cardboard, garden waste and some whitegoods (bring ID with a Port Phillip address), but it does not accept hazardous chemicals such as cleaning chemicals, solvents and bleach. There’s no need to keep a cupboard of sprays for the final clean: our cleaners bring theirs.
Bathroom mould in an Albert Park rental: who handles what
Consumer Affairs Victoria says responsibility for mould can depend on who contributed to the problem. A renter may be responsible if mould formed because the bathroom ventilation fan wasn’t used. In Victoria, renters must leave the property reasonably clean, with fair wear and tear excepted, and the condition report from the start of the agreement is the reference.
