Left something behind in your Mitcham rental? What Victorian law says
If belongings or documents stay in the property after your rental agreement ends, Consumer Affairs Victoria calls them “goods left behind”. It says renters should contact the rental provider as soon as possible to arrange collection. What happens next depends on the item:
- Perishable food, dangerous goods and goods not worth any money (other than personal documents and the items below) can be disposed of immediately.
- Goods that can be sold, labelled containers or urns holding human remains, specialised medical devices, equipment and goods (including prostheses and prescription medications), and medals and trophies must be stored in a safe place for at least 14 days from when the rental provider first tells the renter about them.
- Personal documents, such as official documents, photographs, mail and material on computer hard drives, must be stored for at least 90 days.

Planning your end of lease clean in Mitcham
